A
leading visionary in supply chain planning and eProcurement, Dr.

in the area of high-tech manufacturing and independently began
development of a solution to the long-standing problem of decision
support for multi-vendor, multi-line item RFQ processing. In June
2000, together with a small group of prominent technologists and
marketing specialists, Dr. Smirnov founded Akonite. For the past
year, Dr. Smirnov has brought the multi-vendor procurement to
an unprecedented level of ease of use and seamless third party
integration.

Prior to founding Akonite, Dr. Smirnov held senior management
positions at the fastest growing ERP and Supply Chain Planning

his doctorate degree, Dr. Smirnov worked at Westinghouse in the
area of distributed computing and process control.
Dr.
Smirnov's computing career began at the National Defense Electronics

enterprises, where he headed the design of airborne data and signal
processors for fighters, helicopters, and missiles. After the
fall of the iron curtain, when East European markets became open
to Western companies, Dr. Smirnov was promoted to the level of
Vice President of Business Development to oversee business relations
with European and North American partners. Dr. Smirnov was responsible
for signing one of the biggest joint ventures of that time in
Russia with Gillette.
Dr.
Smirnov has published several dozen refereed articles in the area
of Supply Chain Planning, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research
and Computer Science in journals and conference proceedings. Dr.
